Welcome to the tranquil paradise of Es Trenc, a beach that’s tucked away in the southern part of Mallorca. This beach is a sanctuary for those who yearn for the serenity of nature, the allure of unspoiled white sands, and the captivating beauty of Caribbean-like blue waters.

The Allure of Es Trenc

Es Trenc is a beach that’s no stranger to locals and tourists alike, thanks to its stunning Caribbean-like waters and the radiant white sands that stretch over two kilometers. It’s nestled between the bustling beach resort town of Colonia San Jordi, the tranquil wetlands of Ses Salines, known for producing some of the finest salt in the Balearics, and the quaint town of Sa Rapita. The name ‘Es Trenc’ translates to ‘ravine’, and it’s a paradise for nature enthusiasts who will fall in love with its untouched beauty, sense of isolation, and warmth. It’s no wonder that Es Trenc is often listed among the top 20 beaches in Mallorca.

Es Trenc is a laid-back beach that primarily attracts young adults and families, but it’s also a favorite among the older generation. The beach is devoid of water sports, and with just one main restaurant and a few chiringuitos (beach bars serving delectable casual food), it’s not bustling with tourist activities. You can rent lounge chairs and umbrellas, and there’s ample space to find your own sandy spot to lay your towel. However, it’s advisable to bring an umbrella as there’s no designated shaded area.

Visitors flock to Es Trenc to enjoy the beach and find an escape from the hustle and bustle. Occasionally, one of the bars may host live music after 6 pm, adding a dash of party vibe, but overall, the environment remains relaxed. The beach is a favorite among both tourists and locals, and it’s not unusual to spot naturists here, especially away from the main crowds. As there are no shops or accommodations nearby, it’s recommended to bring extra water and food. The facilities are basic, with toilets available but no showers or changing stations. Vendors can often be seen strolling along the beach, selling items like tapestries, cold drinks, or handmade jewelry.

The water at Es Trenc is a sight to behold, and a major attraction for visitors. It’s shallow, calm, and occasionally stirred by waves from the wind. The turquoise clear blue color of the water is reminiscent of a Caribbean island. The beach is bordered by sand dunes, rocky outcroppings, shrubs, and pines, extending into Salobrar de Campos, a stunning 1500-hectare natural wetland with salt flats, a variety of birds, and a small lake.

Access and Safety at Es Trenc

Es Trenc can be accessed via Ses Covetes to the north and to the south, through a road that meanders through the Salobrar de Campos salt fields and wetlands. The landscape here is stunning, making it a must-visit for bird lovers. The serene and quiet surroundings can make you feel like you’re in a different world until you reach the beach and see the crowds, which peak during the summer months.

Lifeguard stations are present in the busier parts of the beach area, and rescue services can easily access the beach. There’s an area with a ramp for wheelchair accessibility to the beach, but it lacks seating, a shaded area, or a nearby paved boardwalk.

Ample paid parking is available at both entrances, and there’s a public bus stop near the Ses Covetes entrance.

Embracing the Es Trenc Experience

Building sandcastles and snorkeling are the top activities at Es Trenc, apart from just chilling out, as there are no water sports available except for a few paddle boats in the busiest areas during the peak summer months. Take a stroll along the dunes or the waterside to soak in the natural beauty of this location. You’re sure to capture some Instagram-worthy shots! If you’re up for a little adventure, venture into the wetland reserve for a different kind of sanctuary and try bird watching.

On your way to or from the beach, make sure to stop by the Flor de Sal Es Trenc salt shop and cafe. You can buy some of their famous salt, a perfect souvenir for yourself or others, or enjoy a drink in their charming outdoor space. Visits to the salt flats are also possible, but remember to check the timings before you go.
