Cala Mitjana: A Journey to One of Mallorca’s Smallest and Most Secluded Beaches
Cala Mitjana: A Hidden Slice of Paradise
Tucked away on the east coast of Mallorca, just a few kilometres north of the bustling resort of Cala d’Or, you’ll find Cala Mitjana. This hidden gem, nestled in the municipality of Felanitx, is a world away from its namesake on the northeastern coast. Its neighbour, the charming cove beach of Cala Sa Nau, serves as the starting point for reaching Mitjana, which can only be accessed by foot or by boat.
Cala Mitjana is a petite, open bay encircled by low-level cliffs and trees. The beach, with its soft white sand, is only about 20-metres long, but the surrounding low rocks also offer a place to recline. This secluded beach is at the end of a private road, and while it’s a quiet retreat most of the year, it does attract some crowds in July and August, particularly locals, mainland Spanish, and German tourists. The water is crystal clear and calm, making it great for children. However, the 20-minute walk to reach the beach can be challenging for smaller children and parents.
There are no facilities, no umbrellas or lounge chairs for hire, and no water sports activities. The beach’s size and remote location make it a place for a unique beach experience.
